First and foremost, we could not have accomplished our beautiful remodel without Dorothy’s guidance and wholeheartedly recommend her services for anyone considering a remodel. We live in a typical 1970’s built 5-bedroom center hall colonial that was in desperate need of updating. We thought about what we could do to update our home almost from the day we moved in 30 years ago. But it wasn’t until we called and met with Dorothy Durbin that we finally got someone who took the time to visit our home and listen to what we wanted from a remodel of the entire first floor.

We knew that Dorothy had provided award-winning redesign guidance for multi-million-dollar houses, so we were very happy to get her help with our more modest colonial. From the start, Dorothy laid out detailed plans and materials to give us an idea of what we could expect from a remodel and did so within the budget we had allocated to the project. She brought in a trusted contractor to help with the remodel and introduced us to numerous suppliers who would help us decide on specific ideas and materials.

Everything from the removal of walls and soffits, the remodeling of our entire kitchen and eating area, the style and color of cabinetry (kitchen and two bathrooms), flooring, countertops, appliances, hardware for new cabinetry as well as the redesign of our entire upstairs hall bath.  Hundreds of decisions to make where she guided us in updating our space to suit our lifestyles using quality materials. For example, Dorothy knew that we needed 39-inch wall cabinetry in the kitchen after removing the soffits.

She also knew the safety features we would need in our bathroom remodels and planned the integration of the hardware into the rebuild. We went down to the studs and plywood floors on our remodel and built to new standards of safety and energy efficient ceiling lighting. Dorothy not only introduced us to flooring, stone, tile, cabinetry, plumbing and electrical suppliers, but would often meet with us at the showrooms to present coordinated materials we could choose from to complete our remodel.

Must also say that Dorothy was extremely patient as we worked through our material and design decisions as she spent many hours on the phone reviewing our decisions and allying any fears of making incorrect choices. She always took our wishes and budget into consideration, and we have to say that we are very pleased with our “new” house.

We could not have made this happen without Dorothy’s help and deep connections with suppliers and contractors. Dorothy receives our highest and heartfelt recommendation for anyone considering a redesign or modernization.
